Camping
A glimpse into past moments brings a treasured memory
Slowly climbing the steep slope taking in the mountains scenery
A flutter of fear as we are drawing perilously close to the side
This trip up the mountain brings sickening fear I try to hide
Seems like forever before the hidden lake springs into sight
The car pulls to a stop relief comes knowing we’re alright
The tents go up, fires are built and fishing rods slung over a shoulder
Tripping down the short trail pulling up a seat on a small flat boulder
Lines in the water, antisipation spreading as you wait for that first bite
Looking forward to reeling in the biggest fish for the frying pan tonight
Back to camp loaded with fish, oh so proud of this days catch
Laying in the open air under the stars a crackling fire there is no match
Sitting around the fire singing and telling stories steaming cocoa in a cup
Remembering the great family outings when I was growing up
