Calling My Students

inspiring them one at a time
I phone my students
checking their feelings

the parents barely want to hand over the phone
needing a friendly voice themselves
so I try to uplift them too

school is not cancelled,
it is being reconstructed
I assure them it will work out

even when I have my own doubts
I tamp them down and bring
enthusiasm and encouragement to the fray

lifting them up one at a time
listening to their fears
soothing them the way others have soothed me

The parents are desperate to speak to another adult human.

Eve Roper Date: 4/2/2020 2:13:00 AM That is the only way to do it; consoling everyone at a time like this. I see the parents panicking, they've never been a teacher. I am having the same issue with my son's step girls since the mom is Hispanic. I haven't taught in 12 years and I hope somethings are still the same so, I had to gather some ideas, flashcards, charts and worksheets besides some games they can use for learning. My other two of course the classes are being supervised by computer. All I can say is Prayers to all.
