Notes About The Poem

Inspired by many, but no name calling here...just a realistic view of social evolution

Selfie Or Call Me Insensitive

You call me insensitive,
But I don't believe that's true;
Because, you see,
It's all about me.
It's not about you.

You say your opinion doesn’t matter,
That I’ve no respect for your point of view;
But I do if we agree,
Because it’s all about me.
It’s not about you.

You say I’ve no compassion,
No feelings for your troubles or your blues;
But none of us is issue free,
And mine are all about me;
But…not about you.

A time old adage,
“To thine own self be true.”,
Is all about choices you see.
My choices are all about me,
And, certainly, not about you.

So, when its time to make your choices
You’ll understand and know it’s true;
To decide what will or will not be,
Won’t be at all about me;
It will be all about you

But special moments confront most of us,
When what matters isn’t “Me”.
And while these moments are few,
They’re not about me, not about you.
For a time, it’s all about “We.”

Yes, “…no man is an island.”
Is a valid point of view;
But if it’s not about “We”,
Then it’s all about me.
Sorry.  It’s not about you.

It's all about me ... I disagree. It's about God, the One I call Father. It's not about me or you :) God bless you

Oh, this was a great poem. Keep up the good wording. I too enjoy writing . I have poems I publish and two stories. I'm not putting to many on the board because I can't use them in my book while on the website.

So nicely written and also coveys the message and confronts the issue in a non aggressive way. I really enjoyed it! Good job :)

Awesome first posting, Robert. It is so very true that our perspective is all about us. How could it not!?But people don't get it and that makes conversations and relationships so very difficult until you're with the right person.

Author here. The poem was written in response to shallow conversations overheard from young women on a Friday at Happy Hour. Never had I heard such self-absorbed conversation and the listeners' eyes were blank...they didn't care. They were simply waiting their turns to talk about themselves. "You know...it was like... and I like said..."Then this poetry contest came up and the rest is history. Frankly, among all of my stuff, I like it because it is so realistic in today's social environment. I've overheard many more such conversations at bars, restaurants,
