Cajoles Us

Life cajoles us
   with her carefree times
   her sunny warmth
her long light days of summer
   shining her flowered colors
   her sweet seductive scents,

When always
   just beneath her surface
hides the dark
   the blanket of long nights
   the frozen
   the desert frost
of bitter winter.

Sometimes a love
of one so dear to heart
can mirror the same unsettling
   deceive-deceptive allusion
that just beneath the glow
   lurks
the cold good-bye.
