Byways
Byways
We traveled byways of laughter,
fain and giddy at the start,
but harder roads came after
that wore sorely on her heart.
There are paved paths of glory
that lead to elation's glen;
the taking of love's quarry,
ledgered by the poet's pen.
There are roads one misses
and roads fate will deny;
saying farewell with kisses,
taking love, then one's bye.
We shunned byways of sadness,
now those wistful roads diverge.
We lost our pursuit of gladness
on divided roads, never to merge.
