-But Yet

We raise them
We love them
They are our all
Our everything
Our reason
For so long

The time then comes
We have to let them go
To make a life of their own
Forge their own paths

They move away
To where they want or need to be
To create their new life
Maybe have a family of their own

They are independent
Fulfilled, doing well
They are happy
We are happy for them
We are proud

We have done a good job

It is as it should be….

BUT YET ~

With an aching heart….we miss them
So much distance is between us now
We see them ….when we can
When….they can

Our lives and love
Our connection
Our relationship
Is now via phone and screen

There is a silent emptiness
An ongoing sadness
A deep longing to see them
To be with and share life with them again

There still is that never ending parental need
To touch, cuddle , hold them
Protect and keep them safe
Comfort them , make it all better
See them smile, hear their voice, their laughter
Beside them…..In person

As we once did

Though…

It is as it should be…

They are happy
We are happy for them
We are proud

BUT YET ~

Even when they are living far away your love for them is just as strong as it was when they were at home. Over the last few years two of my daughters lived far away but now they've come back to live in our town. Tom

Deb, my son asked me as he wrestled with getting three kids under age 10 ready for soccer, hockey and gymnastics ..."when does it get easier"....I replied "it never gets easier...they are always our children".
