But For a Season

For reasons we may never understand
our Lord sends friends, but for a season
reminders of the times we have shared
and memories of days when love gave reason

So many things I wanted to say to you,
even when I could talk with ease
and words could flow, much was left unsaid
surely, our Lord knows best and will give us peace

Our friendship has meant so much to me but,
now time moves on and faintly leaves its trail
and who's to say that our paths won't cross over the years,
but one thing I know for sure, that is God's love will never fail
