Burning Embers

Burning Embers (A New Song)

Perhaps a song within still shimmers…
like the embers of a long forgotten fire
awaiting new kindling.

The old lyrics forgotten, as the logs that
did burn, that warmed the soul no longer
in harmony with the spirit:
…stripped of the notes that once crackled
and sparked when a harsh stirring
 occurred in the heart
…a cord or two gone up in life’s flames
sending with it a chorus of pain
 rising in blinding smoke.

Perhaps within the ember’s glow rests
that new song with a refreshing melody…
hope glowing in the ashes.

debra, I just LOVE yours. The way you likened it to a song that is burning in the fire. Wow, total creativity and originality. Congrats on your win.
