Aye 'ee is fierce and hale. Four mile to work, across the vale; No slommakin' slattern 'ee, Okkard as an itching flea. Eee'd fetch hosses to boss's yard, Garmed with mud,as thick as lard, Cla'holt of 'em wiv a rope, On is own, allus could cope. Niver sees 'im vexed,or aggled, Even if drenched and bedraggled; In lightning 'e wore niver frit, Though the whole sky wore fork-lit. Grew peas that kidded well, Allus 'ad a tale to tell. I just listened to it. It is SO different from any of the American dialects. Also it's not your typical style of writing, so I am sure you are exaggerating the accent. I wonder if this sample of your voice is like if I were to imitate a southerner from the U.S. I am able to change my voice quite a bit to take on the southern accent. If I were not seeing the words, I would not have understood this poem! and I still don't know what "cla'holt" means. haha!! Wow.

Yes Andrea, there is exaggeration,( of voices that existed in the 40's hereabouts) I did a study of local rural Bucks words once in use,and the poem was inspired by the style of Williams Barnes(a famous Dorset poet (the county adjoining Nina's Somerset) and is in effect my tribute to my maternal roots.ps it means to grasp or get ahold of ..cla'holt

Brian, this was great and what a delight to hear your reading of the poem, oh boy that is quite the accent, I am inspired but doubt I can pull off a dialect but I can write of places !

This is wonderful, Brian and enhanced by the accompanying audio interpretation. We live in Bucks too and I've never heard this dialect before. An enlightening read.
