Bruises and Lace
She walks to school
draped in bruises and lace,
Hiding her secret pain.
Crying out in every way
slipping grades, fights every day,
Hoping her cries would be seen.
They all wonder but never ask,
guessing at what she's holding back
choosing to looking the other way.
Till one day,
she doesn't come back
too broken to move.
Late at night she cries out
split lip; her eyes swollen shut
a few bruised broken ribs.
When help finally comes,
it's already too late
she had slipped away.
A fragile soul caught
up in a torrent
drugs, hate and rage.
Now they all mourn
wondering what more
could have been done.
Years pass by
memories fade
now nothing remains
of an angels broken fate.
