Brown Shoes

Do you ever feel like the world's a tuxedo And you're a pair of brown shoes? Have you ever felt you had two left feet? Or the ship's already left for the cruise? Please take heart, we've all been afflicted At one time or another in our lives There are those who appear a lot worse off They forget to wear pants when they drive There ain't no cure for this strange affliction Embarrassing as hell, heaven knows Walking across the floor at the prom With your dress tucked up in your hose Out for a walk, met my cranky old boss He was taking his dog for a stroll Chatted and then after saying good luck Turned and smacked into a pole Or when you attend a Halloween party You're the only one dressed up in the room Then you realize it was a black tie affair But you're dressed like a pregnant baboon Just dig a deep hole and climb down inside Hope nobody notices you're gone Don't come out until four in the morning Slink home by the first light of dawn © Jack Ellison 2012

I love this one. So cleverly written. We’ve all had a moment where we wished we could just bury ourselves in a hole. Incredible work. You never cease to amaze me. Always, Laura

We've all been there in some form or another... Loved your work. Papa didn't want the cat I got him because it refused to sit on anyone's lap. So I brought him back on the plane riding with the cat on my lap for more than 3 hours... go figure... It had to start liking laps... a little late... but it'll do fine here with us.

Ha ha ha, this is such a funny write my friend! I am so very impressed with the way you brought each event up to see how much we would want to disappear at that moment! I would definitely want to hide in many of these situations! And I think it even more humorous knowing that one of these was true, that you actually walked into a pole...I don't mean to injure your pride, but that IS funny Jack! What a delightful and wondrous poem here, I loved reading this fine piece this afternoon! Great Work!!

Lol, I did that - smacking into the pole :). Yes, those times we feel like we can disappear (wish that we do)! Awesome write, Jack. Sometimes we wish we have magic power :)

I actually did that too, trying to impress a former boss that I wasn't particularly fond of! LOL
