Brokenness
You walk ahead during your day
Never looking down at your feet
Until you hear a crunch
The sound of broken glass
You never noticed me
But this is me
This broken glass
I’ve been dropped
Thrown
Tossed
Slipped
Almost caught
Been put back together
Many, many times
Just when the glue sets
When the bond becomes strong
I find myself falling again
Towards the pavement
I see it happening
All in slow motion
I know it’s gonna happen
Everytime I get glued back together
No one has ever been gentle enough
Knows and understands
That I am and have been broken
Fragile
Handle with care
Be gentle
No one understands this
And just does what they may
Placed in careless hands
Angry hands
Spiteful hands
Hands that try to care
Hands that want to care
But after so much glue
After being broken so many times
There are pieces missing
Pieces lost
Pieces too broken
I will never be the same again
Whole again
I am a lost cause
Don’t bother trying
Another crunch of your shoe
Walking on this brokenness that I am
Another piece gone
Don’t bother picking me up
Sweep me out of the way
Into the trash
Where I can finally belong
Accept being broken
Accept there are pieces missing
Accept that I can’t be fixed
This brokenness that I am
