Notes About The Poem

Broken-Hearted After Stillbirth

For nine months I nurtured you But you were not mine to keep You didn’t cry when you were born But I was crying In fact, I was screaming hysterically The doctor tried everything to save you, but it was no use He told me you were stillborn I said “No, she was born sleeping” God had other plans for you He needed another angel in heaven Now my baby girl plays there with her toys My womb is empty … so is my heart FICTION WRITE for Broken-hearted Contest Sponsored by Broken Wings 10-13-17

You are so kind Roy :-) I never know what will come into my mind and just write when the muse is willing, my preference is humour but I do write the occasional serious poem:-) hugs jan xx

Jan, this is a real tear jerker. I felt the pain within in this piece. Although I've never experienced having a stillborn child, my heart goes out to the couples that have. This heart wrenching poem is pure heartache. I wish you the best of luck in the contest- Alexis

Oh Jan, this is so deep and emotional, I cried for this individual! My Aunt has had two stillborn babies, and they both were extremely hard on our family! She almost went into a depression that nobody could get out of! I could certainly understand that! I loved how you put the line, "I said 'No, she was born sleeping,'" within your piece because it lightened it a smidgen! But it was all soooo sad! I was in awe with your incredible talent my friend! I really enjoyed this poem this morning! GW!!

My colleague went through the very same thing Russell and totally withdrew from everyone around her, it was heartbreaking. I can't think of anything more painful than losing a child of any age and I still get so sad when i think of our friends who lost their 2 sons from a drugs related incident in 2014 - i still think of them every day as the beakers they drank from are still in my cupboard:-( hugs jan xx
