BROKEN WINGS

In this time of political upheaval where every day
by some bad or sad news we’re blindsided…
a time that being woke has caused friendships to deteriorate…
and our country to be divided.

Where every day people who believe in equality, inclusion and compassion
suffer their share of arrows and slings…
It seems to me we are now a nation of people….each of us with a broken wing.

Where once we had the ability to fly…up where dreams abound
now with a broken wing…we are forced to flutter on the ground.

With many curious as to how we got into this mess…who caused it…and why
wondering, with our broken wing…if we will ever again have the ability to fly.

And just when we think we’re doomed…that there is no way we can cope
we receive a visit that quietly swoops in upon the wings of hope

Hope preferring to whisper in a voice tenderly spoken
reminds us we have two wings only one of which is broken.

“But what can I do with one broken wing?” we ask…knowing then
with one wing that is broken we will never fly again.

Hope smiles and says, “You silly people the solution is right in front of you.”
“Tell us Hope,” we plead…”what are we to do?”

Hope pauses…”Find someone else with a broken wing.”
She says with a twinkle in her eye
“Join with them….and with your two good wings…together you can fly!”

Here hope gets serious…saying, “This is what you need to do..
but I can only bring you hope…the rest us up to you.

Of course that does’t mean it will be easy…
people’s hearts will have to be softened and awoken…
but the only way we will fly now
is together…using our wings that are not broken.
