Listen to poem:
Broken Promises
"Broken vows are like broken mirrors. They leave those who held to them bleeding and staring at fractured images of themselves."
— Richard Paul Evans
1) I once thought our relationship
was etched in stone
But now I'm left picking up
the pieces alone
My heart's like a broken glass
that cannot be joined
What once was hot passion
seems to have been purloined
CHORUS:
You left me bleeding,
bleeding,
bleeding...
... like a rose
You left me needing,
needing,
needing...
... in love throes
2) Our vows were once a sacred tie
between us two
But now they're just smithereens
of love so untrue
Broken shards that prick my heart
leave me bleeding red
Fractured beyond redemption
coz of words unsaid
CHORUS:
You left me bleeding,
bleeding,
bleeding...
... like a rose
You left me needing,
needing,
needing...
... in love throes
3) Life, once a fairytale
with a happy ending
Now it seems a horror story
my soul's rending
Why did you promise me love,
a part of yourself?
When all your oaths were just hollow,
void in itself
CHORUS:
You left me bleeding,
bleeding,
bleeding...
... like a rose
You left me needing,
needing,
needing...
... in love throes
4) I stare at a shattered image
of a cracked me
Damaged now beyond repair,
as the world can see
Breathing hard through bruised agony
still unspoken
Broken promises leave me
hurt and heartbroken
BRIDGE:
Promises are meant to be kept
But you broke them and then, you left
CHORUS:
You left me bleeding,
bleeding,
bleeding...
... like a rose
You left me needing,
needing,
needing...
... in love throes
You left me bleeding,
bleeding,
bleeding...
You left me needing,
needing,
needing...
... YOU...
