Broken Pieces

I sought the Lord with tearful eyes
I brought to Him my earnest cries
I sang to Him a sombre psalm
My deepest fears He gently calmed

“You know the desires of my heart
You know I cannot bear to part
With a dear friend who stood by me
In distress and difficulty”

Our conflicts have been aplenty
I’ve tried to drown them in the sea
The sea has overflowed; no ship
Can salvage this broken friendship

“My life is Yours, my very soul
Take what is broken, make it whole
The broken pieces in my hands
Are fragments that I cannot mend”

I don’t know what the future holds
How things will be I am not told
Though hopes are dangling from a rope
It’s in Jesus I find true hope
