Written 2 March 2026 for Broken Heart Poetry Cotest of Seth Pina
when our eyes greeted each other for the very first time outright a shining spark sprang from the depth of our heart alike to the first blossom of spring that banished the wintry chill roused the peak of delight seeming to show our destined way with promises of long enduring sweet summer sunshine wishes to thread the matrimonial web after the coming spring desires to sow the seeds of a few lovely flowers willing to dispense all due care needed to see them grow up and bloom as the joy of our heart the sunshine of our life alas a parental wall of concrete erected at her end hedged our view like a steep mountain while her quivering spirit unwilling to oust the umbilical chord opted to direct her black Excalibur towards the crest of my chest shattering my heart to pieces transforming it to a slice of flesh pricked by an arrow`s pin sealing a scary scar deep and profound, that resounded bluntly, mockingly in stillness of the night the shattered pieces lay scattered on the grass and pebbles a mirror reflecting a fractured self with shuddering shadows stretching where bright sunlight used to shine severed by her sparkling sword of silently shunning away the flame of love was lost in the air with pearly drops not dripping, but hanging on edge of my eyes like frost with my breast flaring up like flashes of lightning on reminiscence of the dismal plight to which she had hurled me one gloomy night my mind was veiled with a cloud of damp deep darkness, all along my path, grey shades did collide with thoughts dulled by wide strata of bleakness my shattered spirit on the dull drowning downside with life seeming shrouded in a white whimsical mist of despair a woeful drama of suffering with an unknown destiny a sorrowful silence settled where our laughter used to linger hollow echoes reverberated in the favourite spots where we lazed at rest I searched the edges of the trees for some hidden memory that might disperse this overwhelming gloom but to no avail after several solitary springs that succeeded the cold winters I learnt to breathe again cooler and thinner air though in a different sphere scanning the inner depth within my inner self
