Broken Breath of Dreams

In dreams, again, you broke my breath
stretching the room
and hiding me in darkness
until you revealed your gift:

to be played at both ends
black skinned and shining
with rainbows painted on the keys
which stained my fingers as I played
in sun rooms private, pocket doors
to loosen this breaking flood in me.

a generous, motherly smile
sewing my gaping hole a patch
with metal strings from the piano's belly
and a needle of dream discernment
and I sat, broken breathed in tears
thinking: "How did she know?"...
