Bride in Black

Running on rose petals,
sharp heels piercing the dirt.
A trail of betrayal,
and a heart that bleeds.

With heavy footsteps, she lunges at her victim.
An ensemble plays an encore.
Nails viciously claw and tear,
ripping away that rot and ruin.

Screams of mercy are drowned out by her rage.
One sees red, the other has his eyes closed.
As crimson tears cover her dress,
the bride bears the mark of death.

Dear Seth, This is so gothic and tragic too, and has so many emotions within your lines. I always say that I will be a bride in black! As I love that! the way youv painted imagery is beautiful and so very vivid. I especially love the opening lines. the death of love and betrayal so creatively depicted! Pleasure readin ~ sending you light always

In 14th-century Spain and later Roman Catholic traditions, brides wore black silk gowns paired with a mantilla (veil) to signify unwavering devotion and loyalty to their husband until death. It was also a sign of wealth as dyeing was expensive. This poem has taken this into the macabre which is how we see it today.
