Breathless

Breathless

In this night of  loathsome air
Beneath a callous sky
Alone and vagrant, where you cry
With no pastoral, pleading prayer

Days of wonder
Left far behind
Trampled by the daily grind
Lost in greed's unselfish  plunder

Speech left panting
Screams fearful out
Feeling each of every doubt
Hear them singing, mournful chanting

Leave them reel in mortal conflict
Let them rise and fall
