Break Up

I remember when you said "I don't know"
It felt like a spike shoved deep
to the hilt
shattering the smooth surface

The fractured sounds reflected
in the glass
a web of cracks

Like ice when winter goes too far
below freezing
air trapped in pockets
leaving holes
sparkling with blue hints of restless currents
underneath the surface

Treading like an ox too heavy to hold
fissuring further with every step
each sliver-thin line
reaching out for stability
to suddendly stop
in a deafening "pop"

The ox, this beast to carry your burden
halted before you, the sun
fearing the coming melt down
walked out across the ice knowing
that the battle had just begun
that the risk of falling was certain
that the glass would break
that the sun would set
that it would get so cold
that the sun didn't know
that the ox was a slow but steady current
that the day was done, won and lost in that moment

wow man ... uhm ... the images here are exhausting ... farming frozen fields ... what have we but cold to help us through these winters ... surely these cold winds have crossed our paths ... as we walk around this ox ... let us stop ... make fire and eat ... the day is done when we swallow the ox that carries us ... now ... how do you like your ox tail ... don't worry ... we have a herd of hippo ping gwins ... huh ... hey ... hope you don't mind our mind works ... really like reading you here .
