Brand New Ride

Broke the bank yesterday on my brand new ride, Bright midnight blue with golden yellow sides, Bringin’ it home for me and my baby to drive; Breakin’ outa here. Can’t let the bad boys take us alive; Ride, ride, ride... Bad boys are rippin’ up this rundown town, Ridin’ ‘round in Fairlaines bringing everybody down. I take my baby’s hand in the early dawn, she smiles and hides a yawn, We’re gonna take a ride ‘round these dusty old streets. We’re gonna feel the heat. Ride, ride, ride... We gotta rev it up in this rundown town; We gotta cut it loose before we set it on down. Break outa here. Run. We gotta ride on outa this falling down town, Gotta rip up the air before we put her back down, Cause there ain’t much goin’ in this broken down town, Breakin’ outa here, Just half a mile of heartache sittin’ around. Run, run, run... Punch it. And we gotta ride on outa this broken down town, We’re gonna lose our souls if we settle on down, We’re gonna drown. We gotta rev it up in this rundown town; We gotta cut it loose before we set it on down. We’re gonna lose our souls if we settle on down. Breakin’ outa here Before we crash and drown. Run, run, run... [Based on Elton John's 'One Horse Town']

Very cool lyrics, Deb. You chose one of the few Elton John songs I don't recall hearing, but I love what you did in writing about the new car in a rundown town. Congratulations on your win! Love, Carolyn

Geez Louise - Another tough song to put lyrics to! This was from EJ's Blue Moves album. I love this song and you certainly did it justice. I popped in my CD and followed your lyrics as I read this poem. TERRIFIC parody. Congratulations on your BIG WIN in John Heck's contest. Best wishes, Kory
