Boxes
Boxes full of times together
Of lasting memories shared
Is it time to put them away
With devotion and utmost care
The first is full of simple smiles
Whenever I think of you
Neatly folded into loving piles
It's all that I can do
Next are all the memories
Of the times when we were two
Wrapped with love one by one
Sealed with tears as glue
And then the one full of pride
Whenever you were near
Now in a prism of sadness
And closed up with a tear
A large box full of hugs
Each one wrapped with a sigh
Placed next to a rolled up list
Of all the times I've asked myself why
Now to pack are the pieces of my heart
Like fall leaves gathered in a pile
All scooped up very tenderly
And placed next to a hesitant smile
Finally all the shattered wishes
Placed in softly so no more can break
Covering them over trying not to cry
Still so precious for memories sake
Lastly labeling each and every one
With words of longing and love
Closing each with a tender kiss
And a silent shout to you above
Gathering up your life in boxes
Reminds me of the bond we share
It’s impossible to put them away
So I unpack them gently with utmost care
