Borrowed Hair Clip
Your borrowed hair clip still sits on my bedside table
I wonder if you know I still have it
It’s gold and not quite big enough to hold all your hair
but it’s the perfect size for mine
I’ll give it back the next time I see you
or the next time I remember it’s in my room
this is how I know I can’t live without you
I find pieces of you with me everywhere
you take pieces of me with you too
my slang, my heart, and my fashion sense
sending me photos of things I would like
crazy pants you found on vacation
earrings that I would wear every day
I take your stories, intonation, and secrets
intoxicating me with the knowledge of your life
making sure all my friends know your name
because apparently I can’t have a conversation without thinking of you
love is not enough of a word to explaIn how I feel about you
4 letters, a word not longer than my fingernail
could not possibly explain why I act the way I do
why I talk about you to everyone with ears
why I laugh at your halfhearted jokes
why I would do any chore with you because it’s not a chore if we’re together
your hair clip is still on my bedside table
and now that I think about it, it’s more bronze than gold
I’ll give it back when I see you next
It’s one of your favourites after all
