Born By Fire
Deep within the earth's crust
slowly over the centuries
it had gradually made it's way
finally it reached the light of day
Dull and round as big as a golf ball
it lay on the ground enduring rain
followed by wind and sunshine
slowly the outer skin came away
At last it was free yet still dull
a man picked it up excitement in his heart
he took it to a jeweller's for polishing
it was cut and shaped letting light in
Weighing 12 carats it was well acclaimed
as into gold it was set, an engagement ring
thus this stone born of fire and pressure
graced beauty's hand with its own beauty
