Borderline

She surprised me by spring
I thought we were done, she and I
She seduced me by summer, as I had dreamed for so long
Then forgot about her, gave her up
She poured the sea into me
I sparked with her and hummed in my depths
And she overflowed, poured herself into
Everything that led me, set me free, that freedom -
Into the wave, into the pine, into the resin and stones, the gorges
Into hearts, old, new
She raised me onto the horizon
The world opened up in everything
The bougainvillea strutted like never before
Renaissance style, self-sufficient and holy
The scent of the samphire carried my body over the edge
Of the invisible prison of memories, of needs and decaying beliefs
Everything I thought, came to be,
that’s how much this freedom was mine.
I flew away and landed in myself.

The chill arrived later, with the calendar
It huddled into the frost, into the gray needles,
into the bearded face, into the naive heart
It glared at me with a blue, deceitful gaze
It tired me out, imprisoned me again.

Now, the sea sleeps inside me, its gentleness and sharpness
It frowns a bit in this illusory dream
It waits wisely, knowingly, to become a wave.
Like a bird when, against the backdrop of the open sky,
Finds the edge of the fence and sits
It cannot fly all the time
Sometimes it has to land
And, on the blade of the prison wire,
it rests, on the borderline of freedom.
