Anthony Biannco's Bone Beach Contest: October 20, 2024

There's a sleepy little town on the Mississippi shore. Not many people live there since... well, not anymore. Townfolk tried to keep it a secret, but as secrets go, rumors run swiftly, like a river's current they flow. The way I heard it told, there was trouble on the coast. A party was going on and someone was making a toast, "To the wedding couple," all raised a champagne glass, then a scream was heard coming from the dune grass. A startling discovery was made, one of human leg bones. The curious few of the lot took pictures with their phones. They must've been washed ashore in the recent hurricane. Some thought the remains might have been of one slain. It's been twenty-three years since those bones were found. Every now and again, another is exposed by a digging hound. A weathered sign saying, 'Bone Beach' is half buried in the sand. And just last month, a tourist found the skeletal bones of a hand.

As always you have amazing language skills Lin....this poem a testimony to how well you can bend words around a story, the final result seamless. Not exactly the beach I would want to visit mind you...I like my bones camouflaged by a juicy steak. Take care...

Thanks, I appreciate your visits and comments. Isn't it strange how one theme can create so many different thoughts for poets to consider?

Sounds like someone had a bone to pick with the victim/s Lin, I’m pretty sure lots of strange parts have washed up on the Mississippi over the years, a creepy one for sure, also has that spooky Halloween feel going on, the signpost image adds another menacing dimension, great one for contest, cheers David

I lived on its banks, but thankfully never found human bones. Lots of other strange things, though. I'm pretty sure I was persuaded by the haunting of something or other. lol Thanks. David.

Yikes! Enjoyed this eerie tale, Lin. I started writing something for this contest… but it went off in unexpected directions that I’m not sure I can find time to unpick. It also did the Terry Flood thing and just got longer and longer. Good luck with your entry. Terry

You were drowning in a Flood of words! Cry for help, Terry and lots of us would come running to rescue you. Thanks for liking this one. If I were you, I'd find time 'unpick' what you started. ;-)

That's very special. Anyone can buy a ring from a store, but to have one custom made from something found...

Our friend's daughter spends most of her time on a yacht with her now fiancé they travel the world. her engagement ring is made up of sea glass found on the island and was created by a local artist/ jeweller. totally a unique piece and priceless!

I'm not near enough a sand beach to hunt for anything, but sea glass is so pretty. Thanks, Jan.
