Notes About The Poem

image from outpoll.com

poem written for Story Circle Network's Real Women Write annual anthology; this year's topic is body stories.

BODY LEDGER

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The body keeps its ledgers~ purple ink beneath the skin, a ledger of missteps and collisions. Some bloom tender as dusk, others harden into topography, maps of what we survived. They whisper in fading yellows: here, you were alive enough to hurt.
Yep, no pain no life. But it is annoying especially for one who tries to remain active. Every time I slightly bang my hand or wrist in the workshop, the resulting bruise looks like I blocked a baseball bat. Frustrating.
