Blue Butterfly
In meadow flowers, one June afternoon,
I lay beside a brook, and its soft sound
was lulling me to sleep, so very soon
I fell into a dream, where all around
me flowers bloomed so big they seemed like trees,
for I was a small fairy! Then I saw
two giant wings that fluttered in the breeze -
their hue so brilliant blue I gaped in awe.
The creature landed, and it let me slide
onto its back. Above the brook we flew.
How wonderful it was that I could ride
above the meadow into sky of blue.
I woke! The first thing that I saw was sky,
and then - like magic - a blue butterfly.
