Blind Date With a Cat

Blind Date With a Cat

My auntie asks me, "You want a new cat,
who'd love a home as warm as yours?" "How great!"
I say. "I'll take her sight unseen!" My hat
and coat I fetch, prepare for this "blind date."
A blue-eyed tabby, curled on auntie's bed
comes straight to me as I extend my hand
to let her sniff, then pet her dark-eared head.
She head-butts me for more. I understand!
I take her home. She hides a little bit
beneath my couch, but as I reach for her,
she comes right out and follows me to sit,
then covers up my lap in shedding fur.
She sleeps now, purring like a dove in song.
It's like this cat's been with me all along!

Delightful! My buddy had a cat from his ex wife, and Garfield (the cat) would knead his paws into my stomach + purr. He was a great cat. I miss him still. Thank you for this fine posting. Brian

Always a good sign when a cat gives you an early head bump. That's one blind date with a happy ending! Best to you. ~Eric

Hi Jennifer, this cat sound a great deal like Orphan Annie that I wrote about - she has now adopted us during the day and goes to her mistress at night. A beautiful cat who as you say head butts me for more love and strokes. I've never been a cat person, i love dogs, but we have bonded!

Exactly how a cat behaves, but I prefer a dog for a companion in my old age. A great story in sonnet form. Thanks for posting it. Best to you in your writing endeavors. / Maurice

Thank you Kim! Animal allergies are a bummer aren’t they? I used to get asthma from cat dander but with Claritin, I have not had an attack in years. Would something like that work for you?

I am sure there’s a cat out there who would love to live with you. Ask God to fix you up on a blind date with that cat.

Thank you Sally! I wanted to call her Emmeline, but she came with the name Charlotte. I also had a good friend Jeannette who died so I wanted to name the cat after her too so, the cat is Charlotte Jeannette Emmeline Fenn, Charlotte for short.
