“When you’re blamed and shamed for something you didn’t do, remember the one who looks out for you, He knows the truth”
Long ago when I was in junior school I was made to look a ludicrous fool A note was passed around, from desk to desk Guess who got the blame when it came to rest. It was me of course, teacher called me out I got the blame for handing the note out The culprit never owned up, he or she And no one at all came forward for me. The note said that so and so loved someone The names on the note from mind have long gone Deep down I knew that teacher disliked me It was how she spoke to me nastily. Too shy to say what I needed to say On that horrid embarrassing school day Not one classmate spoke up in my defence The instigator had no penitence. That teacher picked on me for any thing She didn't care how much her brusque words could sting So I was tarnished with the blame and shame If only I had that time back again. Teachers are sure to be fully aware Some pupils are in need of tender care Living their lives already traumatised Needing love and not to be stigmatised.

This is to let you know that I entered the wrong poem into Sotto’s contest. I entered a poem with the same title that was written in March 2023 also for a contest sponsored by Sotto back then, silly me. So now I have altered the title for this poem… Beryl

I'm glad you never fell for an revengeful trap; you were a better kid of them all. Here is to us shy girls who took it, and never became mean people out for revenge. Mean people suck and are all around us, as you know. Cheers, sweet sister!

Hi Beryl, how are you dear friend. Isn't it awful when you get the blame for some thing you never did or said, or, in business a client blames you for not reading an email she sent which was never sent and she or he never owns up and tells her boss what you did, which you didn't, and you now have an irate client, whom you will probably lose because someone didn't take the blame. i think this poem will do very well in the contest, I hope so because I love it. Hugs, blessings, Jennifer

Hi Jennifer, it is awful when you’re blamed and shamed when you know you are completely innocent of any wrong doing. It makes one wonder how the culprits feel, they probably have hearts made of steel. I’m so pleased that you said you love this poem, you’ve warmed my heart. Thank you so much… Hugs and blessings in return… Beryl

There are some teachers who do not deserve the name and ought to be fired. Great story. Hope it's fiction. Best for a win,

Victor this is true, it did happen to me and I’ve never forgotten, I showed the poem to an elderly neighbour who was a teacher, the poem upset her. Thank you for reading and commenting… Beryl

I wonder if that teacher was really good at their job or they had frustrations in their private life or just plain cruel. Growing up as a quiet kid is hard enough and then to be put through this...All the best in the contest

I’d say the teacher was plain cruel, good teachers don’t take their frustrations to school. Thank you Marugu for reading, commenting and sending best wishes… Beryl

- Brought back memories from my school days... I've experienced exactly the same... it was horrible... because I was a "quiet" girl - Best wishes in the contest :) - hugs

It was horrible, the teacher concerned had her favourites and she showed it. Thank you Anne-Lise :) Hugs returned, Beryl

It's terrible to be blamed that way. There is no way you could have spoken to the teacher after school,? I guess when we are very young, we don't think of what we could do. Good poem

Dear Andrea, at that time in my life I was terribly weak and shy, looking back I could have told the headmistress what had happened, I didn’t even tell my parents or discuss it with my best friend, so I never found any closure. Thank you for reading and commenting… Beryl

I think this can be a common thing where people do not realise how their actions effect others.. nice rhymes and flow Beryl..

Well shame on that teacher for treating you in such a way. And shame on those kids in your class for allowing you to take the blame. I love ya, sweet friend.

Thank you Lin, writing this brought back the pain experienced that day, even though it was many years ago, I must have been ten years old at the time, that’s sixty five years ago. I just wish I’d been stronger and stood up for myself. Love you too… Beryl
