The Divine Comedy's Empyrean by Gustave Doré

A man can fail many times, but he isn't a failure until he begins to blame somebody else—John Burroughs Blame Underneath a belt of stars in stratosphere’s arena There, blood rushes within each lover’s heart Veiled by the silky fibrils of the cortina A solid dome in the deep vast expanse, heaven’s vault Ever debuts Dante’s Paradiso, Where angels fear to tread, far off and away they stay from the milky orb, be it so, and instead, for fear of the mid-night’s enticing allure, and love’s lasting doom, they… Blame the Moon Orion rises in the Orient East, it sets in the wide Occident West Antares only rises once Orion sets, vice versa! Spellbound, forever severed, and a lunar eclipse longing An affair’s unrest, not potions nor a test or curse, ah Their quest to finish weakened minds Seduced by halos ivory glow in twilight Lusting mortals, passionate kinds Held captive, never to unite ‘neath the pearlescent orb’s sheen at midnight Gold-leaf doors unbarred, luminous lune art Seduced as pleasing colors meld white to blue Ere a raging tempest rips apart the seether Empyreus, quintessence, searing crimson love they’ve fallen into True Aristotle’s aether in bloom, Hark! Blame not each other… Blame the Moon!

Exquisite poetry Anaya, one can blame the moon for many strange things, but most of all for toying with heart strings. Congratulations on your 1st place win in the contest… Belle

Speaks, did I say that, haha, yes the concept came to me after thinking all nite staring at it from my window. Definite piece im proud of. I love using a thick theurasus and synonyms, can't live without it. Also I see a blank spot there above, waiting for some more blaming. Thank you, it's a treat coming from you. ,)

This is quite cerebral Anaya, and well written to boot. One of your betters I think. I have Milton's Paradise Lost but, ahem, lost interest about halfway thru reading. Can't imagine reading the Divine Comedy. Yipe!

Nice poem. Blame goes to the weaker object.

Astrology and astronomy all in one place Anaya, A lot going on here in this wonderful piece, man has/will just about blame anything and everything for his misfortunes, even to the point of offering human sacrifice, but hey! why not blame the moon on his unquenchable desires of the flesh, it is pretty seductive after all, super poem for the contest, cheers David

David, where chemistry becomes alchemy between lovers. I may add more, this seems like that kind of poem. I'll just keep on blaming the moon, that seductive mistress, for it all! "Shame on the Moon" I was shooting for the potd, I can see why it didn't make it, fixed the first paragraph, it's ready. Thank you for your most welcome visit and words. Cheers

It makes sense that the moon is considered feminine and that the moon receives the blame. Man rarely takes responsibility for his own failings. This is such a mystical write. I loved it. I expect you will do well in the contest.

Moon has many names as well but wait there's a man on the moon! Moon Diana....sister moon. Thank you, its complicated, I know that Occidental and West are redundant, but I like to teach wherever I can, it makes me feel useful. Anywhooo Thank you, Richard for your thoughts, much appreciated.

Dear Anaya, What a captivating exploration of human emotions and the tendency to shift blame onto external forces. Through lyrical prose, you transport me to a realm where love and desire intertwine with celestial bodies and a tale of passion and longing. The moon's symbolism as a scapegoat for human folly is masterfully depicted, as it becomes the focal point of blame in a tumultuous affair. I love how your verses are filled with depth and complexity, inviting reflection on the nature of responsibility and accountability in heart matters. Brilliantly penned! - Blessings, Daniel

Thank you, Dilly! Me too, can't wait to get my hands on the book, I looked it up...The Divine Comedy is composed of 14,233 lines that are divided into three cantiche (singular cantica) – Inferno (Hell), Purgatorio (Purgatory), and Paradiso (Paradise) – each consisting of 33 cantos ...aye ya ya yae! You can do it! "D
