"Black Molasses"
Black Molasses
holds to ransom
footprints
sucked into
Tropic of Capricorn mud
as bushfires bleed
sugar from cane
like molten glucose
shot into the veins
of Mother Earth gone all
libertine sour
like Lemon Grass
crushed and burnt
acrid smoke inhaled
through the flaring nostrils
of brumbies running wild
coats the colour of
bitter sweet toffee
now drenched in ash
like dusty grey icing
and acid rain from the
billowing bruised clouds
baptise pregnant trees
splitting wooden hearts
and dropping wasps and
bush bees now not buzzing
they are quiet like
the dying Summer buds
now black balls dropping
in Mother's masonic box
they spit their now
poisoned milk red treacle
fecund gone the colour
of ancient faecal
stools all seats in
the land broken and crisp
black fella brother says
lighting from fire came
they've closed all outback schools
words in the news
hits the world in the face
with a new life
koalas with charcoal for fur
torn naked and puss blistered
bear witness to tornado flames
climbing rock walls
where the blue flames
lick like the devil
his teeth dripping
lambs blood
and legions of cattle
baking by the roadsides
with bitumen all over their
hides like adhesive
melting them
they are
dead road signs
igniting gums bark
dingoes with their skin peeling
and joeys incinerated
in a mother’s pocket
hearts are melting in the dark
Hell of Oz
where fear replaces wisdom
terror is broken like a capsule
of Amphetamine and breathed in
a wake up call to
not to go back to sleep
you're really not needed
in dreams
Black Molasses
pointing bones
drowns a
Black Dog Barking
and Mary Magdalene
cries buckets of tears
for what was lost
in the could have been
stations under the
Southern Cross
churches burnt to the ground
where the child in time
listens to the impostor Queen
Who dusts a criminal’s feet
like he’s precious not unclean
the mother no longer walks on water
her dams are all dry she has
spent every last tear
a dead summer where her
Christmas was murdered
she swallowed a bitter pill
her delinquent people
a Cockatoo flying in
slow motion with feathers flaming
screams for mercy
like a pyromaniac
pterodactyl
