Black History
I always look forward to what you say
Sometimes words in black fade to gray
No doubt as family has to find a way
We are stronger than we could have imagined
No textbook lesson is enough
To get thru life’s trials and stuff
Sometimes you have to fight and scuff
To get to day’s end
Hello, hello I rise again
I say thank you and begin, begin
A brand new journey that I’ve never seen
I stand up in it and view the scene
No one can tell me what the day may bring
Hell anything could happen and I mean anything
We don’t know the day, the hour or the circumstance
So I’m surely gonna tell my story and do my dance
While there’s still life in my body I shall have no fear
Too much purpose in my being here
I charge you today to stand my friend
Follow your journey until your destination ends
Because, we are stronger than the strongest tree
And as I look into your eyes and you look back at me
Know that even though we are different we are all family
We are historically stronger than strong
We’ve been linked together singing songs
Standing under the beat of the sun for so long
And our faith conquered all the wrong
And we are better because of it
We’ve conquered with strong character and great wit
A mind so strong, that we learned it
Even when the books were to no avail
Thru patience and perseverance in spite of the ships that did sail
And did in fact, abuse our bodies and our minds
We pushed, we sat, we gathered hand in hands in lines
To get us to where we are today
I’m thankful for those of you that paved the way
