Black Cat

He claimed to be a modern young person,
age-old beliefs out of his mind had gone,
but for one superstition
that got his full attention,
he was surprised it would soon take him on.

On a warm day as the sun melted dew,
he stepped out of home for job interview,
as he passed neighbor’s backyard
a black cat he saw chase birds,
it crossed his path before he had a cue.

Although he thought the interview went well,
he feared on his hope cat’s bad omen fell.
When the job offer he got,
searched for the black cat a lot
to present it a plate of mackerel.
