Bittersweet Tumbleweed
I offered up my wings several times
to lift you over raging ego licked fires
but you chose to be a tumbleweed
in a dusty ghost town called your life..
Everything I've loved you swept away
frolicked in the shadows of my mind
and for years that's where you played...
I've placed the wings back where they belong
sewed silky notes to a new love song
the opaque lifting from my battered heart
the moment you were gleaned then gone-
Gentler things have taken your place,
deep dialogue without barbs of judgment
water lilies dancing on full moon lakes
lacy hearts rippling with sweet percussion-
I've spat out the last of your rancid chains
can finally breathe without constraint
though it took a wedge of precious time
a starburst of clarity gleaned the ghosts
from the back waters of my mind..
and yes my bittersweet tumbleweed
I still dream of you from time to time-
