Bird Talk

Different birds have different chirps So I began to wonder, Can they communicate Or do their chirps tear them asunder? Is all the varied twitter More like dialects? If so, They’d understand each other But with accents they would know. Or does each bird breed have language That is only recognized By the others in their grouping? That’s the answer I’ve surmised. So if cardinals and chickadees Would somehow get to meet, There would be no ruffled feathers Since they’d not exchange a tweet.

How about a Mockingbird? I think it's so interesting and fabulous that they can tweet the sounds of up to ten other birds. It's remarkable. The robin in my garage has an angry frenetic sound whenever I appear. Poor thing. S/he tweets much too early in the morning. I wish she was a late sleeper. What a fun poem, that I am glad to have found! :)

I believe that birdspeak is understood by all birds no matter what whistle or tweet they use based on the volume and shrillness of the language.

I tend to think birds do have a measure of chirps for communication purposes. Beyond that I don't know. I've heard crows give off cawing alarms when a hawk is overhead where crows have a nest. Apparently they can recognize an enemy. All your question are well-taken, Ilene. Thanks for the stop by. / Maurice

Fun poem, Ilene. I've wondered about all that chirping up in our trees. Surely it makes sense to someone, probably like minded birds. I'm glad I came by to read some of your poems today. Have a great week! Bill

Actually they do understand each other. other animals also understand bird language, especially their danger calls. a fun read, Ilene.

An intriguing question, Ilene. I think it's more likely that different bird species are more "combative" than "communicative".
