Bird By Rehab

They unload life’s lead into unseen enemies machine gun memories flying rapid fire recollections and musings spent shells amassing mental turbines spinning smoking the room. And they yawn and doodle ink stains for amusement their purpose loosened without caffeine courage meetings adjourned aimless wandering down immaculate hallways wounded reflections in thoughtless pursuit of quiet relief. And they nod gingerly with grim understanding lives in the balance teetering on a wire as the bird careens by the smokestack somehow in silent recognition of lives interrupted. I find my best write themselves, I don’t know where they come from. I didn’t write for ten years before finding this place. I look at the contests hoping something pops. The muse has tapered off, I too can’t just write a poem. My partner is an alcoholic, I have my own struggles, and a TBI. Lovely to meet you. mo

I only wrote two poems about my experience at the treatment facility at the VA. This was one, Inevitably was the other. Strange that I cannot seem to write poetry unless an experience, person or place really drums up serious emotion within me. I cannot just simply sit down to write a poem. They actually write themselves I think. Thank you for taking the time out to comment on one of my poems.
