Notes About The Poem

Written April 6 2026 for contest Venting or Redemption sponsored by Seth Pina

Bipolar Bear

I am a bipolar bear
I can hibernate anytime
Meds I take help me dare
Walk the bipolar line

The one between sanity
Or walnut on green vine
Writing is my vanity
The good thing from my mind

Swinging can be dangerous
But man don’t you feel free
When high on life maroon mania
Till depression is drowning me

I can hibernate this way
By poem by song by story
Writing my condition away
Giving God all the glory

Yes I take my empowering pill
And I go to therapy
Polar bears are known to kill
But bipolar bears set you free

Why do I say that
Because we desire peace
And despite red times bad
It’s happiness that we seek

Thank you dearest Anaya! I feel like I shouldn’t share so much but it’s the only way I know how to write! Lol

What a neat idea, a 'bipolar bear?' Do you split time between the Arctic Circle and Antarctica as well?

The positivity you derive from the challenges really makes this poem unique because of how balanced each side is laid out. Well done, Karen.
