B-Girl

the tips of towers glisten in the night
man-made stars built on artificial light
the whistle of the wind sends chills up my spine
motioning for a taxi, motioning for some new way out

walking to the street corner
in your well-dressed tragedy
i turn my head at you and wonder if you even realize
the malediction that you wear so well yet neatly disguise
yet something you can't hide under that coat and crimson scarf

i edge my way in and stand close by
just as you've successfully hailed a cab
your whimsical smile fades as you turn toward me
"maybe we can share the fare," i say
a few strands of hair in your eyes are pushed aside
then your smile re-emerges softer than before

slipping into the taxi, seated on the left side, my right
you remain with your smile, yet don't say a word
some mute kind of seduction, i wonder how many you've had
all i know is you'll be my b-girl, you'll be my lady for the night
