Beyond This Huge Continent
Beyond this huge continent
where seas separate adored faces
and smiles smeared with sadness,
I left what was a living part of me;
spring meadows that seemed prairies
with wildflowers giving more beauty
to a sunset not wanting to fade away...
I can only remember them with regret!
Must I relive a past that makes me weep for that happiness
I felt going through my being, and while living
the adolescent years of an adventurous boy who climbed
steep cliffs and encountered many dangers,
no joy could be compared to conquering hills...
were new thrills were delightfully and anxiously found!
I discovered them deepening my love for Nature and God
and their revelation was greater than my understanding
when the deer leaped, when the butterflies gathered
near a brook that ran through rocks and make bubbling sounds!
Beyond this huge continent
with an ocean very vast and turbulent
that has seen shipwrecks disappearing into its depths,
I'm shivering thinking if I ever could transverse it;
a captain with a bold spirit displays an act of courage,
that bravery not innated in me rises rage
and although imagination is quicker than reality, the odds
are against me, and from this shore, distance frightens!
Beyond this huge continent with waves that scare seagulls,
an inanimate being doesn't know where his tomorrow lies!
