Beware of My Peril

The Word of God equates me with haughtiness Highlighting evil of arrogance… Declaring that my arrival brings shame Along with contention and conflicts Warning the wise against my folly Exposing the prudent midst my ill effects: Failure, fall, and frustration’s miseries Driving down my adherents toward humiliation Leading my supporters into destruction Conquering souls to wallow in vain glory Imprisoning exalted self-righteousness around futility's abyss … Beware of my peril: I AM PRIDE*!
*Proverbs 8:13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth. April 2, 2019 Edited on February 26, 2020 4th place, "Warning" Poetry Contest Sponsored by Richard Lamoureux; judged on 3/15/2020.

Beata, a nice job personifying pride and describing all the downfalls that come along with it. A valuable warning indeed! "Imprisoning exalted self-righteousness around futility's abyss". Congrats on your win! Peace ~ John
