Between Sand and Storm
We left with pockets full of hope,
stitched tightly by our mothers’ hands,
carrying prayers in quiet whispers
across oceans into desert lands.
The sun here burns a different way
not just on skin, but deep inside,
where longing lives like an endless tide
we’ve learned so well to hide.
We build their towers, clean their glass,
care for children not our own,
we smile through calls that cut too short
in rooms that echo home, home, home.
But now the winds don’t feel the same
they carry whispers sharp with fear,
sirens hum beneath the silence,
and tension lingers in the air here.
We watch the news with steady hands
that tremble only when alone,
counting days in silent prayers,
hoping peace will find its way back home.
Still, we stand.
For we are more than borrowed strength,
more than labor, more than name
we are the heartbeat of our families,
the quiet fire, the unseen flame.
Even when the nights grow heavier
and the distance feels too wide,
we hold the Philippines within us
not a place, but a living tide.
So let the world be loud with chaos,
let the ground beneath us shake
we have crossed far darker waters,
we have bent but did not break.
For every tear we never show,
for every fear we learn to still,
we rise each dawn in foreign lands
with courage forged in iron will.
And when this storm has passed us by,
when skies are clear and hearts can rest,
we will return not empty-handed,
but with stories carved in our chest.
Stories of strength.
Of sacrifice.
Of love that distance can’t erase.
Because no matter where we wander
we carry home in every place.
