Between Earth and Sky
Between Earth and Sky
The shining stars beckon my soul,
Unknown lands before me unfold;
I gaze at the dazzling light,
Everything around seems bright.
Yet grief gnaws my tender breast,
My pining heart knows no rest,
The plaintive moan of mankind
Echoes in my mind.
The deep sea I wish to explore,
Sea where the tidal waves never creep;
My goal is the celestial shore,
Shore where never glides any ship.
Yet my heart wails the forlorn flowers,
My soul grieves the cheerless bowers;
I long to hear human sound,
Echoing from the earthly ground.
The spatial sphere I wish to view,
Sphere where the soul is ever new;
The stately realm I wish to glance,
Realm where angels are said to dance.
Yet the glade withholds my wings,
The trees impel me to sing;
Even at light should I stare,
The naked trees bedim my glare.
Pitched between earth and sky
Shall I know where I lie!
