I've read this with a dog on the couch beside me. So good to feel his chest going in out with his breathing. Nice write, a little cute, I a lot sad.

Jan, I'm so glad to hear this is a fictional account but your poignant poem is a great reminder as to how much pets can provide security, comfort and unconditional love. Cheers - Gary

No greater companion then a dog my dear friend, When Genie died I thought it as the end of the world. I miss her still. As for your mom, know that she will always love you with the heart of a woman who had a child with clear mind and heart. That kind of love goes far beyond our memory Jan, far beyond. It lets us live in hope, that we are remembered . Much love x o

Whom shall I pity more? The pet or the owner? I would say both. Hugs.

Little compares to losing a dog. They’re there, night and day: beside you when you walk, behind you when you turn around and just behind you or just ahead of you when you run... unless there’s a cat... or a squirrel... or another dog... or a seagull... or a... or was that just MY dog. Touched a nerve Jan, glad for you that it’s fictional... a gentleman wouldn’t comment on the fact that your poem makes you about eighteen... oops! Sorry! ;-) Terry

Clever write! When one of my late wife's cats died, the burying was left to me whilst she went straight out and adopted another one, so I doubt whether she would have wasted any time at all if I had dropped dead first! Aloha! Rico
