Beneath the Ancient Olive Trees

Beneath the Ancient Olive Trees Beneath the ancient olive trees On a hill outside of town The Son of God was praying No others made a sound His disciples all had tired And drifted off to sleep Leaving him alone to pray His own peace to seek Beneath the ancient olive trees On a hill outside of town Jesus called out Father Can another way be found Yet not my will but your will I stand ready for your plan But give me strength and courage For I am still part man Beneath the ancient olive trees On a hill outside of town Disciples slept while Jesus wept And the soldiers came around Then the one who would betray him Came up and kissed his cheek And turning to the soldiers said This is the one you seek Beneath the ancient olive trees On a hill outside of town The soldiers bound up Jesus The disciples fled the ground And the “holy men” of Judah Turned their backs then to the Lord And asked that he be crucified They were all of one accord On a hill side in the city A place known as the skull They nailed him to a cross with thieves But their victory was null For as he hung there dying He cried out – all could hear it Father it is in your hands That I now place my spirit Beneath the ancient olive trees In a garden three days hence His tomb, it now stood empty And the scriptures now made sense For the Son of God, to save our souls Must die then rise again And with this single act of love Our souls were freed of sin Mdailey 4/1/12

Thank you - I was inspired by the narrative between songs in a Palm Sunday service. I had composed the first half before the service was over.
