-Behind The Bluff

Why has natural human beauty
Been deemed as not enough
Faces plastered and glued
With artificial, unnatural stuff

False eyelashes glued on
The length of camels plus some
Faces orange or unnaturally brown
Not touched by natures sun

Lips injected and pumped
Botox faces unable to move
Veneered teeth blindingly bright
Faces with so much too prove

It is so sad that young girls and women especially
Believe they are not beautiful or enough
Without wearing their artificial painted masks
Their natural beauty disguised and hidden…. behind the bluff

I think that in addition to 'behind the bluff,' these poor dupes are 'over the cliff!'

Hidden behind the bluff, now thats a good way to describe it. Its shocking how so many young women feel the need to do lip fillers etc etc, to look good enough in their books, making them look beyond their actual age as all these procedures take a toll. And also all those that take now ozempic etc to lose weight is also too much. Anyway sweet debx, happy womens day: sending you light always

so true, glossy magazines, and runway beauties parading themselves, as if that is what it is all about. So far from reality and what really consists of true beauty sometimes eludes us, unless we truly look with the eyes of the soul. thank you for always writing such touching poems, Deb, I can feel your sensitive soul as I read this. :)

One of my pet hates, Deb. When the ads come on for programs like ‘Love Island’ (which I’ve never watched a second of) I invariably say, ‘What the hell is that supposed to be?’ Enjoyed your description of their deliberate mutilations ;-)

I enjoyed reading your wonderful "Behind The Bluff" write. Many want to stay young forever. I had a girlfriend do her face. Her eye fell and they had to redo it. No Thanks... Have a fun day as you write away..................

You’ve expressed this very well, Deb! Often, these reconstructed faces look grotesque to me and I wonder if they look in the mirror and feel happy with how they appear. I’m not crazy about my sagging neck and wrinkles, but I’ll stick with them and suck it up…

Good points, Deb. My hair is silver, wrinkles exist, and gravity has taken a toll on what used to be my upright parts. lol Accept me as I am or not at all.

The real beauty lies within, I never use makeup or lipstick, what you see is what you get lol. You raise a good point though Deb, all the media hype is to blame. Tom

advertising, social media and peer pressure have so much influence especially on the youngsters. Your line about false eyelashes made me smile - we call them 'doiders' as son couldnt say spider when he was little and did incy wincy spider - if we see a lass with massive lashes we say 'look at the doiders on that' but now I will think of them as camel lashes lol.
