Before We Die

Line of inquiry: have we repaid all debts of love we owe?

We go through life, and as we journey on,
can we recall the many souls that we
had met, and just as soon as that, were gone?
The school teachers, the friends we used to see,
our dear ones, kin, acquaintances and more . . .
kind strangers who by word or deed showed love.
Like plucking pebbles from a river shore
would be the task – recalling actions of
so many people! What we have to do
before we die, as humans in this life,
is kindness give to everybody who
we meet along our path. The world is rife
with so much woe. A debt of love we owe
to all we meet as down life’s path we go.

~Sonder~... As we grow I think the most precious acknowledgment is that the most important thing we have is each other...

Truth be told, being the last sibling, as we walked and talked with love in our hearts, and then they all were gone. Now I walk with a smile with love in my heart, knowing that I am never alone. A memorable sonnet, Aloha.

In life, we meet countless people who through gestures of kindness and love have enriched our lives in umpteen ways. We owe to them and are obliged to repay them through acts of caring. A beautifully written sonnet, dear Andrea.

The core idea — that in life our task is to offer kindness to all we meet, that we “owe” love to those whose paths we cross — is universal and morally strong. It gives the poem a sense of purpose and urgency: “What we have to do before we die … is kindness give to everybody who we meet.”

Dear Andrea, what a soft reckoning, a meditation on memory, kindness, and the quiet debts we carry where each soul we meet leaves a pebble in our hands, and each act of care becomes a step toward grace. I love your call to remember, to repay, to love without delay. Autumn Blessings, Dear Andrea, Daniel
