Because It Is

It is enough
to stand upon a promontory
while a thousand miles away
a turbulence creates a little wave,
and know I'll see it crashing
on my rocky shore, and then
returning silently into the sea again...
uncaring of the life that in audacity
will dare to frame it into consciousness.

And all in vanity! All that is,
is nothing more than of itself,
yet something there will breathe,
reach out, relate...and die.

You and I are just
a microscopic part of that.
How can we matter? What can we do?
Our time onstage is meaningless;
for us there is no thing at all,
a wave returning to the sea.

We stand; we watch; we listen.
Then deep within, excitement wells.

We tremble with it.

You're always there for me, Eileen...even for the weird ones like this. :-) Brave girl!
