Because I Am Writing
Sitting on the couch drinking coffee,
I didn't hear my name being called and
they asked what's wrong, why I'm staring
with furrowed brows and a smirk
I tell them it's because I am writing.
I lathered conditioner instead of body wash
without noticing, I put on the wrong sock,
fed the fish too much, and tried putting
the milk back into the pantry
because I am writing.
I lost the beat to my air drums and missed
the entire song, almost missed my turn,
forgot to bring my lunch, left the tea on the
oven too long, the broccoli was soggy,
and the fish had an unusual crunch.
Because I am writing.
I re-read the same three paragraphs
of my book over and over before putting
it down still on Chapter 2 after a month
because I am writing.
I finally grabbed a beer and opened my laptop,
selected a new blank page and out came
nothing.
I changed to night clothes, crawled into bed,
only to find a few hours flew by like minutes
because I am writing.
